Villain, the very tense and gritty 2020 British crime thriller movie, is airing on TV tonight (Wednesday, 19 November).
Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, Rise of the Footsoldier) stars in the film as Eddie, a man just released from jail after serving a ten-year sentence, who is determined to leave the criminal life behind.
Eager to reconnect with his daughter (Izuka Hoyle) and return to managing his family's London pub, he finds that his now drug addict brother Sean (co-writer George Russo) has not been taking care of the bar, letting it become seedy and decrepit.
It also soon becomes clear that Sean has also accrued a large debt to some very nasty gangsters who want to take control of the pub as payment.
As such, Eddie finds himself pressured to break the law to protect his brother and bar.
Villain was directed by Philip Barantini, who would go on to make the massively acclaimed Netflix TV series Adolescence, as well as the kitchen-set drama film Boiling Point - both of which starred Stephen Graham.
On top of boasting a reliably commanding lead turn from Fairbrass, Villain was also an early indicator of Barantini's talent, with the movie having a greater sense of authenticity than a lot of its British crime flick contemporaries.
Villain is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on the channel Legend at 1am. It's also streaming on Netflix now.
