Here’s what some of your favourite TV characters would actually earn in real life

TV characters

Some interesting revelations here.

We all have a favourite TV show.

Something that helps us escape from reality. We can throw ourselves deep into the world of our favourite television characters, and forget about our boring ‘real world’ problems.

But sometimes it can be a bit tough…

How are the characters in The Big Bang Theory all so thin when they eat Chinese food every night? How did the characters on LOST stay so damn beautiful despite living on island for 108 days? And how are the characters from Friends all able to afford such beautiful, expensive apartments in New York City, despite very rarely actually going to work.

Well, new researchers have done their best to answer that last one.

Take J.D. from Scrubs for example. Throughout the series he has three well-paid jobs. He rises the ranks as a doctor in Sacred Heart hospital. He graduates from intern to medical resident earning $53,178 (€45,543) a year.

He is then promoted to a residency director, earning a tidy $172,951 (€14,8119). Not bad…

His first two-bedroom apartment in California, which he shared with his best friend Turk would cost €1,095 each per month. Now we just need to find out how much he spent on appletinis…

Joyce Byers from hit Netflix series Stranger Things isn’t in the same boat as J.D, unfortunately. Her salary as a cashier would be €18,953 a year. She’s also a heavy smoker, which would cost her about €13.23 a week…

Don Draper from Mad Men is doing quite well for himself, making €28,2624 a year. That explains all of the nice suits anyway…

The study also suggests that Rachel Zane in Suits, played by Meghan Markle would make around €43,709 a year. Zane works as a paralegal in New York, and it seems that her income probably wouldn’t be able to sustain her lifestyle.

She regularly wears glamorous clothing including a thousand dollar Tom Ford skirt. Maybe Mike Ross bought it for her…
