It’s Royal Rumble season baby.
WWE likes to describe Wrestlemania as The Greatest Stage of All, and to an extent, they’re right.
But as enjoyable as Wrestlemania is, there is one show that the WWE puts on every year that is undeniably more fun.
And that show is the Royal Rumble.
In 2019, that will involve two separate, huge matches – one hosting 30 men in a ring at once, and the other hosting 30 women in the ring.
The rules are simple – everyone is trying to throw each other over the top ropes, and the last person standing wins.
So now that you’re definitely hooked, here’s the six things you need to be excited about with regards to this event coming up this Sunday.
The men’s Royal Rumble match
Always going to be the highlight of the event, isn’t it?
Absolute carnage, every time. Genuinely, you don’t even have to be a WWE fan to enjoy this. The excitement of it all makes staying up for the night worth it. No matter who wins this one, you’re guaranteed to have a good laugh.
And if you’ve nothing to do on Monday morning, there are some simple drinking games that can be used to make this match in particular even more fun.
The women’s Royal Rumble match
Women’s role in the WWE has come a long way since the bra and panties matches of the 90s.
Some of the most valuable members of the roster nowadays are women, and our very own Becky Lynch is one of the stars of the show (more on her later).
The second ever women’s Royal Rumble match is bound to be a brilliant watch.
Brock Lesnar vs Finn Balor
One of Finn Balor’s biggest ever matches.
Ireland’s own will go toe to toe with one of the biggest stars the WWE has ever had for the coveted Universal Championship.
Finn was the very first Universal Champion, but got badly injured in that same match, so hasn’t had his hands on the belt since.
Could this be the night that he wins it back?
Becky Lynch
We could write a full report about how great Becky Lynch is at the minute.
She’s without a doubt one of the biggest names in the company, and gets huge crowd reactions every time she comes on screen.
She is taking on Asuka for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, and we would be amazed if she doesn’t walk out of this arena with the belt around her waist.
Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles
This is the definition of a dream match.
Two of the best wrestlers that the industry facing off after a well developed storyline.
Any fan of the technical aspect of wrestling will be absolutely buzzing for this.
The inevitable comebacks
The Royal Rumble is now synonymous with comebacks.
If a WWE legend wants to come back for one night of action and guaranteed huge reaction, the Royal Rumble is the place to do it.
