Homelessness is becoming a real issue in cities and towns around Ireland and the problem was brought the the forefront of our minds after the tragic death of John Corrie outside the Dáil earlier this week.

The issue is getting serious in Galway as there are 70 homeless children, 94 homeless people and 30 homeless families in the city.

The charity COPE are working hard in the city to help ease the problem and they’re holding an awareness event tonight.

Later on this evening, 29 business and community leaders including JOE’s Niall McGarry will sleep rough for 12 hours on Shop Street from 6pm to 6am.

The aim to raise funds and awareness for COPE Galway’s homelessness services which are badly needed at the moment.

To donate, text SLEEP to 50300 to support COPE Galway homeless services and donate €4.

If you’re not already following the COPE Galway social media pages, you can do so here Facebook and @COPEGalway.
