Creeslough: Man and woman arrested as part of explosion investigation

The investigation is ongoing.

A man and a woman have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic Creeslough explosion in Donegal.

Ten people died in the tragedy at the Applegreen service station and apartment building on October 7, 2022, including a 5-year-old girl.

The two people, both aged in their 40s, were arrested on Monday for alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

They are being held at separate Garda stations in Co Donegal.

In a statement to JOE this morning, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“The investigation into the fatal explosion at a building complex in Creeslough, County Donegal continues, co-ordinated from Milford Garda station where an Incident Room is established under the direction of a Garda Senior Investigating Officer.

“The investigation continues to be led by local Gardaí, in Donegal Division supported by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and other agencies including the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) & the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

“This morning, Monday 27th May 2024, investigating Gardaí have arrested 2 persons (a man and a woman aged in their 40’s) for alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

“Both are currently detained under the provisions of section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at separate Garda stations in County Donegal.”

The 10 people who died in the 2022 tragedy were: Robert Garwe and his five-year-old daughter, Shauna Flanagan-Garwe; Jessica Gallagher; Martin McGill; James O’Flaherty; Catherine O’Donnell and her 13-year-old son James Monaghan; Martina Martin; 14-year-old Leona Harper; and Hugh Kelly.

Two men were arrested as part of the investigation in March of this year but were later released without charge.
