Extravagant ticket prices could soon be a thing of the past as investigation launched into ‘anti-competitive’ conduct

Much needed…

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has launched a formal investigation into suspected anti-competitive conduct in the ticketing sector.

In a statement this afternoon, the CCPC said: “The investigation will focus primarily on potentially anti-competitive conduct by operators including; those involved in providing tickets and ticketing services, promoters and venues.

“As part of the investigation, the CCPC has issued witness summonses and formal requirements for information to a number of parties involved in the sector.”

The CCPC is also seeking anyone with information on the sectors involved which may be relevant to their investigation to come forward.

While the investigation is ongoing, the CCPC has said that they’re unable to issue any more information.

We’ve seen many incidences recently of tickets being sold at exorbitant prices on touting websites for concerts and sporting events.
