Irish airplane passengers have been warned about bringing their Samsung Galaxy Note7s on planes

Carl Kinsella

Irish passengers have been warned not to use their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on airplanes by the Irish Aviation Authority.

The warning has followed a statement from Samsung that the smartphones are liable to catch fire, following reports that dozens had combusted — including one incident of a phone catching fire on a US plane, causing the aircraft to be evacuated.

Irish passengers have been asked not to use their Samsung Galaxy Note7’s on board, nor charge them while in their seat. They have also been warned not to stow a Samsung smartphone in their checked luggage.

The statement from the IAA read: “In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Irish Aviation Authority strongly advises passengers to power down and refrain from charging these devices on board aircraft.”

Samsung have been forced to recall over 2 million of the devices, but have clarified that the advice to power down the Note7s applies to all Note7 users.
