Netflix may be about to make one of their best ever changes before the end of 2016

This is big. Very big.

Netflix is reportedly considering an offline option and it could be introduced before Christmas.

Excited? Yeah, we are too.

According to The Next Web, an offline mode for Netflix could well be available on desktop and mobile by the end of the year, thereby hugely increasing accessibility for its millions of users worldwide.

Earlier this year, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings spoke of the need to “keep an open mind” about offline viewing on the streaming service, an about turn from 2014, when the company’s Director of Technology said it was “never going to happen”.

Speaking to Light Reading, Dan Taitz, COO of mobile video firm Penthera, said that Netflix’s plans to go offline were an “open secret in the video streaming community”.

“We know from our sources within the industry that Netflix is going to launch this product,” Taitz said.

“My expectation is that by the end of the year Netflix will be launching download-to-go as an option for their customers.”

Just think, all those long flights, bus and train journeys and other situations where boredom prevails due to the lack of a decent wi-fi connection could soon be a thing of the past.

We’ll be awaiting developments with baited breath…
