Very sad news from Limerick.
A spokesperson for An Garda SÃochána has confirmed that a woman has died after she was pulled from the Shannon.
Units from Limerick fire service, Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, as well as members from the Irish Coastguard attended the scene after the woman was spotted in difficulty near Limerick’s Steamboat Quay, shortly before 3.45am on Thursday (2 January).
The woman was brought from the scene to University Hospital Limerick. Early reports had suggested that the woman was in critical condition, but Gardaà confirmed to JOE that the woman has since been pronounced dead.
A post mortem is scheduled to take place at a later date, and Gardaà say that this will determine the course of the investigation.
Gardaà have said that inquiries are ongoing.
