20 huge movies that all turn 20 years old in 2024

Simon Kelly

The year of strong sequels.

Just as we did with the biggest songs of 2004, we’re now focusing on movies that are turning 20 years old this year. And, luckily for us retrospective watchers, 2004 was a real good one for movie-goers.

From generation-defining comedies to all-out action movies, we were spoiled for choice 20 years ago. You’ll be primed to get these on the re-watch list for the weeks ahead.

Let’s take a look.

Shaun of the Dead

20 huge movies that all turn 20 years old in 2024

Shrek 2
The tricky second movie was no challenge for the swamp-dwelling ogre. It also gave us one of the better movie soundtrack songs of the year.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The only film in the series to be directed by Alfonso Cuarón and, without a shadow of doubt, the best Harry Potter film out of the seven. Don’t come at me.

Spider-Man 2
You can keep your Tom Hollands and Andrew Garfields, THIS IS MY SPIDER-MAN.

Spider-man 2

The Passion of the Christ
Down with this sort of thing! Careful Now..

The Day After Tomorrow
An epically stupid movie about the end of the world.

Troy
A fairly bang average box office smash with one of the best casts of the year.

The Incredibles
One of the best animated films of all time?

The incredibles

Ocean’s Twelve
Just a load of guys hanging out, doing heists and being attractive.

National Treasure
National treasure Nicolas Cage attempts to steal another national treasure: The Declaration of Independence.

The Bourne Supremacy
Another one to add to the list of really strong sequels in 2004.

The Polar Express
We’re still getting nightmares from those uncanny valley CGI humans.

50 First Dates
That film where Adam Sandler portrays, according to a neuropsychologist, “an amnesic syndrome that bears no relation to any known neurological or psychiatric condition”.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The favourite film of a generation of “nice guys”.

Mean Girls
A pop culture phenomenon that has kept its relevancy for two decades now. So much so that there’s a new musical adaptation of the film on the way this year.

Napoleon Dynamite
Speaking of cultural phenomena, there’s a lot more people that have seen a “Vote for Pedro” t-shirt than have seen this movie and that’s a crying shame.

DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball and that’s advice to live by.

The Notebook
Comforting heartbroken straight white girls for 20 years now.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
It’s impossible to imagine a world where this movie did not exist.

Shaun of the Dead
The first entry into the fabulous Cornetto trilogy by Edgar Wright, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

Saw
We’re now 10 movies into the body horror film franchise about a little doll on a bike.
