It was made by a Northern Irish filmmaker.
Netflix have just added a brilliant hidden gem action thriller, while Prime Video have added a hugely emotional Irish documentary.
However, if these aren’t for you, here are the movies airing on telly this Thursday evening.
21 Bridges: An action-packed crime thriller is among the movies on TV tonight.
Clear and Present Danger – Film4 – 9pm
Harrison Ford’s second outing as CIA man Jack Ryan.
Psycho – BBC Four – 9pm
“A boy’s best friend is his mother.”
The Lawnmower Man – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm
The ’90s sci-fi horror with Pierce Brosnan that was very, very loosely based on a Stephen King short story – so loosely in fact that it led to a lawsuit.
Bloodthirsty – Horror Xtra – 9pm
This well-regarded Canadian horror revolves around an indie singer-songwriter who begins to transform into a werewolf while working at a remote wilderness recording studio.
Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol – Comedy Central – 9pm
One of two movies on TV tonight with a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This suggests they should be avoided.
Music – AMC UK – 9pm
Directed by pop star Sia, this musical drama starring Kate Hudson has the slightly better but still not ideal Rotten Tomatoes score of 7%.
21 Bridges – Virgin Media Two – 10pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2019 action crime thriller which centres on detective Andre Davis (the great Chadwick Boseman) on the hunt for two young cop killers in New York (Stephan James and Taylor Kitsch).
However, after shutting down the 21 river crossings of Manhattan in an effort to prevent the criminals from escaping, Davis begins to suspect that there is more to the case than meets the eye.
Between Boseman’s commanding lead turn, an excellent supporting cast (including J.K. Simmons, Keith David and Sienna Miller) and Northern Irish director Brian Kirk’s stylishly mounted action set-pieces, 21 Bridges makes for an engaging, pacy 100 minute movie.
As well as airing on TV tonight, 21 Bridges is available to stream on Prime Video.
30 Days of Night – HorrorXtra – 10.45pm
This extremely underrated horror flick follows the residents (including Josh Hartnett) of an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a thirty-day-long polar night.
What Keeps You Alive – Legend – 10.50pm
Another well-liked Canadian horror, this time about a young married couple whose one-year anniversary takes a dark turn.
Cracks – AMC UK – 11.05pm
Mostly filmed in Ireland, this indie drama is set in the 1930s in a strict elite British boarding school and revolves around an enigmatic diving instructor (Eva Green).
Speed Kills – Sky Sci-Fi – 11.40pm
John Travolta plays a wealthy speedboat racer who leads a double life that lands him in trouble with the law and drug lords.
Not a sci-fi despite the channel it’s airing on, Speed Kills is the other film on this list that holds a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Wildfire – Film4 – 11.50pm
This critically acclaimed Irish drama thriller revolves around two reunited sisters (one of whom is played by the late Nika McGuigan) who grew up on the Irish border and discover secrets from their mother’s past.
