Here are the 6 best movies on TV this evening

Rory Cashin

bad boys 2

Action. Horror. And “erotic drama”, whatever that is…

Welcome back! (Unless you work weekends, in which case… our sympathies.)

Another week, this one bringing some terrible weather, so best to stay indoors, either with a good movie on the big screen (check out our reviews here), or on the small screen, with one of the following this evening:

MONDAY 13 JANUARY

Bad Boys 2 – Sky One – 9pm

Ahead of the release of Bad Boys For Life this weekend, check out the first sequel to Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s action epics. This is the one that blows up most of Miami. The car chases are fun and OTT. The script is stuck in neutral the entire way.

Tucker & Dale VS Evil – Horror Channel – 9pm

Two friendly backwoods farmers are mistaken for Deliverence-esque serial killers and frighten a group of sexy teenagers enough into accidentally killing themselves. A very funny homage to the subgenre of Deep South Horror, i.e. The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn etc.

Fifty Shades Darker – RTE Two – 9pm

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are both very attractive and both very good at acting, but cannot muster up a single ounce of sexual chemistry between them for this first sequel to the BDSM-rom-dram. It is 100% worth watching, however, just to laugh at how un-erotic this supposedly erotic movie actually is.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – E4 – 9pm

The one with the awesome car and bike chase and the assassination attempt in the opera house and Cruise on a plane as it takes off and the underwater heist and… yeah, this is a very good action movie.

The Green Mile – More4 – 10pm

Stephen King is back on the small screen today with the first episode of his new serial killer thriller (check out our review here), but why not check out one of the few times he wasn’t trying to scare us senseless? Tom Hanks stars in this death row-set drama that will have you running through an entire box of tissues because of all of the crying.

Horns – FilmFour – 11.15pm

Daniel Radcliffe stars in this horror comedy about a man who discovers he has demonic powers right around the time he is accused of murdering his girlfriend. It is a big gear shift for Harry Potter, considering it is coming from the director of Piranha 3DD, and the writer is the son of Stephen King.
