Warner Brothers pick interesting director for new Batman movie

This new Batman movie will see the big screen return for Robin for the first time since 1997's Batman & Robin.

The future of big screen Batman movies might seem a little confusing at the moment, and the latest announcement of a new director signing on for another new Batman movie might seem to be making things even more confusing, but we're going to try to clear some things up right now. This week sees the release of The Flash, which brings back (at least) two versions of Batman to the cinema, with both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck returning to their versions of Bruce Wayne for the new multiverse-set blockbuster. These stories are set in a different cinematic universe to 2022's The Batman, which had Robert Pattinson in the title role, and who is set to return for 2025's The Batman Part II. And now we've got another cinematic universe entirely for Batman: The Brave and The Bold, which Warner Bros. have just announced will be directed by Andy Muschietti, the director of The Flash. Check out our interview with the director and his executive producer/sister Barbara Muschietti about bringing Keaton back for The Flash right here: As per Variety, DC's co-CEO's James Gunn and Peter Safran told them the following about why they chose Muschietti for the new Dark Knight movie:

"We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU."

There is no cast or screenwriter attached to the new movie yet, but the comic book run of The Brave and the Bold focuses on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, who becomes the new version of Robin, while also be trained in secret to become a lethal assassin. There is also no set release date for this movie, but is part of the DC Universe's first group of movies, including a new Supergirl movie, and a new Swamp Thing movie. But before all of those, we'll be getting Superman: Legacy in July 2025. That movie is written and directed by James Gunn, with the leading role reportedly down to just three actors.
