A live orchestra will accompany a special screening of Joaquin Phoenix’s acclaimed box office smash.

Having just added a BAFTA to his name, Joaquin Phoenix is basically nailed-on to take home the big one at the Oscars this Sunday.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, that’ll be for his performance as Arthur Fleck in the billion-dollar box office sensation that was 2019’s Joker.

The film garnered a lot of loyal fans, to say the least. So here’s some good news for them; the acclaimed film will receive a special showing at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Tuesday 19 May.

A live orchestra will accompany the film, playing composer Hildur Guðnadóttir’s award-winning score in real-time.

It’s all part of a world tour of sorts, with the first live engagement taking place in London at the end of April. The London opening will be conducted by Jeff Atmajian – conductor and orchestrator of the original soundtrack – with SENBLA’s Dave Mahoney conducting the UK Tour dates.

“I’m thrilled to get to see and hear Joker in the cinema with a live orchestra,” said Guðnadóttir.

“When we recorded the music, the orchestra brought such depth and detailed attention to the performances that we were all literally holding our breaths during most of the recording sessions. It was a beautiful trip.

“I’m so happy to get to go there again and for an audience to experience that too.”

Tickets priced €69.95 for the Dublin show go on sale this Friday 7 February at 9am.
