Staying in this Saturday night? Here are your movies on telly options.
There are 12 solid film options for you this Saturday evening, starting with:
Lantana – AMC UK – 9pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2001 Australian mystery drama exploring the complex relationships of four couples as a woman’s body is discovered in the lantana bushes of suburban Sydney.
Featuring amongst its ensemble cast Anthony LaPaglia, Barbara Hershey and Geoffrey Rush, Lantana’s multi-narrative storytelling – comparable to movies like Magnolia and Short Cuts – helps elevate it from a standard mystery film into a more emotional and thoughtful exploration of love, relationships and the everyday secrets lurking under the surface of a seemingly peaceful town.
As well as airing on TV tonight, Lantana is available to rent on Apple TV, Google Play and Sky Store.
The Babadook – BBC Three – 9pm
Another Australian movie, if you missed this incredible horror last week when we recommended it, you have another chance.
Gemini Man – Film4 – 9pm
Will Smith plays a hitman forced to face-off against a younger clone of himself in this flawed but interesting action movie.
Scary Movie 3 – Comedy Central – 9pm
In my opinion, this sequel parodying The Ring and Signs is the best entry in the spoof franchise. Discuss.
Sleepers – Legend – 9pm
An all-star cast – Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Minnie Driver and Robert De Niro – star in this dark legal crime drama.
Cold Skin – Horror Xtra – 9pm
In this atmospheric period horror, a young man arrives at a remote island to take the post of weather observer only to find himself defending the watchtower from deadly creatures which live in the island shores.
The Fugitive – RTÉ One – 9.45pm
Harrison Ford didn’t kill his wife in this legendary ’90s thriller.
Halloween – TG4 – 9.45pm
The 2018 take on the slasher franchise, which is actually pretty good.
Anthony LaPaglia in Lantana, our pick for tonight
Jigsaw – Sky Max – 10pm
This 2017 movie was the first attempt at rebooting the Saw horror franchise. It was maybe slightly underrated upon release.
The Silence of the Lambs – ITV4 – 10.30pm
The only horror to ever win the Best Picture Oscar.
Death Trench – Horror Xtra – 11.05pm
This World War I set zombie horror starring Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mission: Impossible III – Film4 – 11.15pm
The late Philip Seymour Hoffman steals the show as the villain in this Tom Cruise-led spy sequel.
