The movie earned its writer-director Jordan Peele an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Have you got a case of the hump day blues? Not to worry as you can have a nice evening chilling on the sofa with one of these fine movies airing on TV this evening.

Get Out – Film Four – 9pm

In our top pick for this evening, a young black man (Daniel Kaluyya, Oscar-nominated for his role) visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.

The first film from writer-director Jordan Peele, who rightly earned a screenplay Oscar for the movie, Get Out is a remarkably confident debut. Beginning as a wickedly funny satire about race relations, it mutates as it goes into a mind-twisting sensory experience before building to an incredibly satisfying and cathartic action-packed finale.

The end result is a movie that is intelligent and thrilling in equal measure and makes viewers both laugh and jump with fright.

The Tall Man – Horror Channel – 9pm

Jessica Biel stars in this creepy tale of children going missing with a lot of twists.

Gran Torino – ITV 4 – 10pm

Directed by Clint Eastwood, the Hollywood veteran stars as a widowed Korean War veteran who develops a friendship with a young neighbour who tried to steal his prized 1972 Ford Gran Torino.

This emotional and powerful 2008 drama was a hit with both critics and audiences.

Gone Girl – Film Four – 11.10pm

After his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), disappears and becomes the focus of an intense media circus, Nick (Ben Affleck) sees the spotlight turned on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent.

Written by acclaimed novelist Gillian Flynn and directed by the great David Fincher, Gone Girl is a thriller that has everything you want from the genre – thrills, twists, a ton of style and some dark comedy.

Blood Father – Turner Classic Movies – 11.20pm

Mel Gibson stars in this critically acclaimed action drama as an ex-con who reunites with his estranged wayward 17-year old daughter in order to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her.

Personal Shopper – BBC Two – 12am

In this arthouse horror from French filmmaker Olivier Assayas, Kristen Stewart stars as a young American woman in Paris who works as a personal shopper for a celebrity and tries to communicate with her deceased twin brother.

While this 2016 flick’s off-kilter storyline and deliberate pace may mean it’s not for everyone’s tastes, those on its wavelength may enjoy it for its style and suspense.
