Loggia was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars for his role in Jagged Edge in 1986, and also starred in “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Prizzi’s Honor,” “Independence Day” and David Lynch’s “Lost Highway”.

He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for the last five years and passed away at his home in Los Angeles. His wife of 33 years, Audrey, confirmed the news.

“He loved being an actor,” his widow told Variety. “He used to say that he never had to work. He never had to wait tables.”
