Captain, leader, gent.
We all have our own unique reasons for loving Paul O'Connell.
To be honest, there are so many to choose from but one of the main reasons is that he seems to epitomise everything that the Irish sporting public values in their athletes. As a player for Munster and Ireland, O'Connell was brave, committed, tough, skilled and a bona fide leader of men.
Away from the field, he's an absolute gent that's happy to offer
strangers a lift , contribute to a
newlyweds wedding video or
photobomb his fellow train passengers.
The
tributes following his decision to retire from rugby will tell you just how respected he is by every Irish citizen and there was a huge amount of love for the Munster and Ireland icon this evening.
He even managed to get a Mayo GAA mention in.
